On 13 May, we attended Scotland’s Medical Device Decontamination Seminar, held in Glasgow. The event focused on the latest guidelines, research, and standards in medical device decontamination. It also provided an excellent opportunity for networking and for showcasing innovations, such as endoscopy.

The seminar brought together a diverse group of professionals, including decontamination and dental specialists, microbiologists, laboratory staff, as well as leading manufacturers and distributors. Throughout the day, we attended a series of insightful presentations that offered fresh perspectives on the safe reprocessing of surgical and endoscopic instruments. We were proud to take part as exhibitors.

PFE Medical at the seminar

Our company was represented by Nigel (Sales Specialist) and Rebecca (Product Specialist) from PFE Medical, who managed our exhibition stand throughout the day. The spotlight was on Khamsin, but we also showcased Scirocco and Chronos, three of our key devices for processing endoscopes and ultrasound probes.

“There was a lot of interest right from the start, immediately after registration opened at 8:30. The seminar drew senior educational managers from across Scotland as well as key representatives from Health Facilities Scotland. The venue was a great choice, it combined an NHS hospital, hotel, and conference centre all on one site. For me, this seminar is one of the best opportunities of the year to connect with the right professionals.” – Nigel said.

Innovative solutions in action

We demonstrated three of our devices at the event, each designed to support effective cleaning, drying, or high-level disinfection of flexible endoscopes and ultrasound probes:

Khamsin: An automated endoscope cleaner that can process two scopes at once in about 20 minutes. It effectively removes biofilm and requires no single-use cleaning accessories.

Scirocco: This system completely dries endoscopes in just 5 minutes, using moisture sensors to ensure optimal results. Once dried, the instruments can be stored safely for up to 30 days.

Chronos: An UV-C-based disinfection unit that completes the high-level disinfection (HLD) cycle in only 90 seconds. It automatically checks all parameters and offers a chemical-free, safe solution.

Meetings, conversations, and new ideas

While the technology demonstrations were a key part of the day, the true value of the seminar often came through the meetings and conversations. According to Nigel, Khamsin sparked the most interest, but it was the networking that really stood out:

“For me, the most rewarding experience was reconnecting with former clients I had lost touch with and arranging personal visits. This is what truly made the event valuable for me."

In addition to discussions about endoscope reprocessing and our technologies, Nigel also touched on other engaging topics. These included conversations around the operation of mobile decontamination units and the environmental challenges of reprocessing endoscopic devices. Such discussions highlight the true value of attending events like this, bringing up ideas and topics that may not surface in our everyday work.

The Scotland’s Medical Device Decontamination Seminar 2025 was not only a platform for presenting technological innovations but also a meaningful professional gathering. The insights and feedback we received throughout the day confirmed that we are on the right path in advancing decontamination technologies. Thanks to the personal interactions, new connections, and inspiring discussions, we left the event with fresh energy and motivation.

Our participation was not only a chance to strengthen existing partnerships but also to lay the groundwork for future collaborations. Once again, the event proved how essential direct professional dialogue, knowledge exchange, and innovation sharing are, they drive our industry forward and ultimately improve patient care.
